MacLAGAN'S 60TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY PARTY - HAMILTON MILL, GA
ANNIVERSARY, EVENT | 05.02.14

Sixty years together. What a gift! It’s not everyday that you get to celebrate a sixty year anniversary of anything, much less a wedding. So when I was approached by Richard “Mac” and Leona’s children to capture this moment, I knew I was in for an incredible experience. It did not disappoint.
Mac and Leona got hitched in 1954. I wasn’t alive back then, so here are a few things I found about that 1954 in my quick Google search.
- Elvis Presley pays $4 to a Memphis studio & records his 1st two songs, "Casual Love" & "I'll Never Stand in Your Way."
- Braves Henry Aaron homers in his 1st exhibition game.
- Brown v. Board court decision.
- Average new home cost $10,250.
- Movie tickets were $.70
- Sports Illustrated launched its first issue.
- And of course, two love birds became one.
A few things on this list are hard for me to imagine. They have been around longer than most of you reading this too. But one thing that’s not so hard to imagine is the love Mac and Leona share together, with their children, and with their friends. I quickly found myself feeling part of the family as I filmed a mini documentary. Summarizing 60 years wasn’t an easy task. But it was well worth it. Being armed with this video and a slideshow I arrived at the party - and man was it a party. Friends and family gathered for a few hours to celebrate the legacy of Mac and Leona.
With food and decorations undoubtedly inspired by Pinterest, the setting was ideal. With a deep, beautiful, 60 year type love on everyone’s mind, the mood was undeniably happy and joyful. After the short documentary video was played Mrs. Leona pulled me aside, and with tears in her eyes told me some of the most encouraging words I’ve ever heard. As she hugged me from the side she whispered, “Caleb, after you did that video our love for each other became stronger. You’re family. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” This is why I’m a photographer. This is why I love what I do. I’m out of words, so let me share the highlights of the party to fill in the thousands of words left unsaid.
